# Daymark

**What it is.** A daily briefing that sets out to inform a person without absorbing them. Its guiding line, decided by Frank on 09-08-2026 and placed at the top of the concept note: *most news platforms compete for your attention, this one gives it back*. The two other slogans that shape every design choice: **inform, don't overwhelm** and **you're informed, enjoy your day**.

**Why it belongs to SCRC.** It is an information tool for citizens, in the same family as VoxPopuli and the Administrative Agent: it treats attention as something owed to the person rather than harvested from them, and it makes the difference between a fact, a claim, an analysis and a dispute visible on the surface of the product.

## What is in this folder

| File | What it holds |
|---|---|
| `index.html` | The front door linking the mockup, the Daymark concept, next steps, and Bella and Mark’s other concepts |
| `mockup.html` | The interactive briefing, the product itself: greeting, visual lead story, progress bar, story cards, saved and settings |
| `modern-screens.html` | The screen directions, the UX presentation Frank preferred |
| `ux-options.html` | Three UX options, mostly not dark mode |
| `concept-news.html` | Concept note for the briefing |
| `concept-youth.html` | Bella’s concept for young people who do not seek out conventional news |
| `concept-learning.html` | Concept note for AI education and self-directed learning |
| `concept-conflict.html` | Concept note for information delivery in conflict and low-connectivity settings |
| `next-steps.html` | Complete same-day app-development plan and attention-aligned business model |
| `manifest.webmanifest` + `service-worker.js` | Installable/offline web-app shell for the public Daymark package |
| `story-*.html` | Four openable story pages, added after Frank asked that a headline be openable |
| `assets/` | Illustrative visual assets for the cards, including the closer garden alternative |

## The design commitments, from the concept note

- **Finite by default.** A set number of short visual cards, and a visible end. The interface stops.
- **Balance.** A deliberate mix of topics, and of positive and negative.
- **Labels on the surface.** Fact, claim, analysis, disputed, with sources beside the summary rather than buried under it.
- **What changed since yesterday.** Movement rather than a pile of updates.
- **Personal, not enclosing.** Personalisation sets emphasis, never reality, and the system keeps introducing outside perspectives.
- **Controversy with a frame.** Start from the shared question, state what is known, name the disagreement, give the strongest evidence on each side. No false balance, no outrage bait.
- **A humane metric.** Success is comprehension and return by choice, never minutes watched.

## Current source of truth and handover

- Built by ChatGPT Codex on 09-08-2026, continuing a ChatGPT conversation titled *TerraFab explanation*. The working version is now this folder: `~/Claude/6 - Private/SCRC/Daymark/`.
- On 09-08-2026, this folder was synchronised with the current Daymark prototype from `~/Documents/Codex/2026-08-09/referenced-chatgpt-conversation-this-is-an/`. The previous copy in this folder had fallen behind and was the reason Chrome showed an earlier interface.
- **Daymark is the final working name throughout the package.** The agreed visual authority is the light, visual-first “Today, at a glance” dashboard in `mockup.html`. Do not reintroduce the earlier dark editorial briefing.
- **One interface, throughout.** `index.html`, the briefing, story pages, concept notes, and the surrounding UX material use the same light Daymark system: pale grey-green background, dark ink type, coral accent, teal trust signal, restrained white surfaces, prominent imagery, and mobile-first layouts. New Daymark pages must extend this system, not create a separate dark or editorial theme.
- The browser-only prototype now includes: openable story pages, source-record drawers, a demonstrative visual-brief player, persistent Saved state, interest-based starting choices, settings that visibly affect the briefing, a low-bandwidth/text-first mode, and a mobile-visible Finish state.
- The generated images in `assets/` are illustrative prototype assets, not documentary reporting. Replace them with rights-cleared editorial imagery and real video before public release.
- Bella’s youth concept is deliberately separate from the Daymark briefing. It proposes a co-designed route into information for young people who do not look at conventional news; its detailed format should be shaped with young people before a product is claimed.

## Live app and next product step

- **Live Daymark app:** [social-contract.ch/daymark](https://social-contract.ch/daymark/)
- **Downloadable package:** [Daymark-web-app.zip](https://social-contract.ch/daymark/Daymark-web-app.zip)
- The live product is a complete self-contained browser app with the interactive briefing, source views, Saved, Settings, an offline shell and the full concept package. Its stories and source entries remain clearly labelled illustrative sample content.
- Before the next public iteration, connect real content/source data, rights-cleared editorial media, and an appropriate privacy notice. A reusable Daymark skill would be useful after the product and deployment pattern stabilise; for now this README is the project-specific handover and the first authority for future work.
